Hegelmaschine
The Hegelmaschine is our unique approach to reach artificial general intelligence. Our question is: How do humans really think and how can we replicate and automatize this process.
Thinking is based on language. Large machine learning language models have reached a nearly full semantic "understanding" of texts. We are now integrating these models into a process similar to our thinking.
The German philosopher Gerog Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel developed in his "Logic" the most detailed description of the thinking process and identified core concepts that humans are using every day allthough they might not be aware of these logical concepts. So how do we think:
We focus on the essential part of information.
We speculate, that the contrary of what we see could also be true.
We faithfully derive general explanations from our observations.
We test our hypothesis on more information.
We draw conclusions in different ways, combining our knowledge about general, specific and individual observations.
By utilizing deep learning tools for natural language processing and understanding, we can simulate this process. The result will become a thinking machine: A computer that is able to create new knowledge not presented in the data and to explain how and why a conclusion was reached.
This Hegelmaschine will be able to think and to create new knowledge. The thought process will differ from a human of course, but a plane does not fly like a bird, as well.
